Hi all, I'm looking for pictures and information about TPO and PVC roof failures.

Membrane cracks
Seam failures
Excessive curing
Other reasons for failure.

Anything else. If you have pictures, please post them here or on Google's picasa or anywhere else, or email them to me - levikoma @ gmail . com

Please also include details of each particular failure. You do not need to specify MFG. Age of the roof is preferable.

Any information is of interest and welcomed.

Thanks all.

I want to know what are the most common causes of failures in both, and how to prevent / avoid them if possible.

I think that Trocal should not be included in this as pretty much "everyone" knows about their unreinforced pvc failures. I want to know

http://www.corporateroof.com/pvc-failure.html - this is the only more or less "scientific" information with actual "evidence" I've found, but it does not answer my question of what can be done to prevent / avoid it. And it states right off the bet that MFG had quality control issues. Also, it talks mostly of actual membrane failure which is outside of roofer's control. I was more interested in seam failures / crack near seams, and what causes them.

There is a parallel thread about Sarnifil membrane cracking near seam, but it seems to be abandoned - the guy who posted it, just disappeared.

the bigest problem with pvc is weldability after they age with some of them. somtimes they can crack near the joints in the metal as well.

also another concern is "plasticizer migration" that can happen as the sheet weathers. during real cold temps it can face what they call "glass transition" and get very brittle and possibly crack. All formulars are not the same in the world of thermoplastics. TPO I really do not trust as I have recently heard stories of some catistrophic failors. But its cheap.
