I have a roofing company in Kansas. My crew doesn't work during the winter months. I am wanting to keep my crew busy. My question is: Does anybody in the Texas or warmer climate areas need sub contract labor for January through March. I have my own insurance with WC, an experienced crew. I put on all types of composite, woods, Decra. Have own equipment, however I was hoping to not have to haul my dump truck away from my location. I am a hands on owner, meaning I am working with the crew and will stand by the quality of our work. I have about 6 guys that would be willing to travel, maybe more if needed. Any offers, comments or suggestions would be helpful. thanks

That's a base price, walkable, single story. Hand load is usually $ 1.00 per bundle on single or double story. I pay more than this on a lot of projects, however you need to see this figure before making a drive South for the winter.

Crews provide their own dump, tin tabs & staples; we buy nails, felt, etc.

Not saying I have room for a crew doing anything other than tile work & even then, this is sporadic @ best. My shingle work is sewn up nicely.

Yeah all 6 guys that would come have been roofing for a long time. I started roofing with 3 of them. Nobody with less than 5 years. Most with over 10. I pay them good cause I want quality work. But I try to keep them working and for that matter I don't like sitting around waiting for the weather to warm up much either. But I can't see going to Texas for less than $50(t/o an dput on) a sq.(more for tile and woods obviously). Drop off $2 a square if I don't have to bring my dump truck. But even if nobody has any sub jobs for the winter I was wondering advice. My crew has some good guys, what do other crews do during the winter with their crews. I know some say they keep working but most of my work is with asphalt shingles and I just won't put on in cold weather with the Kansas wind.

Yeah I will keep that in mind. However I usually have worked through the winter. I usually try and push my woods, shakes, decra, even an eco shake sometimes(eco shakes were big here for a year or two, I don't push them at all though), to the winter. Haven't seen a good hail storm around hear in awhile. Have plenty of asphalt jobs though, just not getting much of anything else. Prolly finish everything except asphalt by mid December. I guess I have just had a long standing bias to shingling in the winter. If it doesn't seal and you get wind and then dirt gets on the glue strip who knows. I guess I usually try to avoid the situation unless its on new construction and the gc says it has to be roofed in winter.
