I'm having a bit of a nightmare

Today I was due to have my old, pine, tongue in groove kitchen ceiling replaced with a conventional plasterboard type but a roof leak has put paid to that.

In heavy rain last night water started tricking down the inside of the wall I share with my neighbour and (I think?) I have tracked this to rain entering via a gap on the roof on the adjoining property's side.

The problems are that (presumably) the work needs actioned on my neighbour's side and the house has been empty for weeks with no-one to contact.

To the O.P., are you asking us the best way to go about a repair?

& I'm assuming you are in the UK based both upon your spelling & the assumption I am going on that you are squeezed in house to house with no side yards?

Yes UK based.

Yes - a little knowledge is a powerful thing and will help me oversee any further work on the roof with more confidence.

You might have to call out a roofer to get an evaluation of the problem. You may find some that will do this for free and just give you a bid on the repair. Some may charge you to look at it.

It sounds like you may be stuck paying for the neighbors roof repair.

Just because you did not want to hear what we said does not mean it was not constructive.

You can leave your home get damaged while you are trying to get your neighbor to fix it. Or just have a roofer fix the leak.

#1. I dont know for sure but it looks like to me that the one roof is too low of a slope for tile.

It looks like to me that the adjoining side was probably also tile at one time but the next roofer had the same opinion as me and replaced it with a flat roofing product only.

2. There was a large hole/gap where fascial board dives into the roof. the roofer used concrete to fill the gap. Look under that soffit area, there might still be a hole there. This could be a source for a leak if there is a strong sideways blowing rain going in just the right direction.
