My venting application is exactly as illustrated here:

http://www.dciproducts.com/html/shedroof.htm

the upper drawing.

The problem is there is no Smartvent to be had for 1500 miles.

Can I do this with Lomanco plastic or GAF fiber ridgeroll?
There is also a chinese product that looks like corrugated cardboard but is made of plastic.

Advice?

Are you wanting to use the smart vent for intake or exhaust or both?

For the exhaust at the top we cut Shingle vent II in half and install flashing over it.

I wanted to use smartvent for exhaust only. I have continious soffit vent installed.

Do you think the Cobra fiber material or a plastic ridge
vent product cut in half would be a better solution.

Whatever gets installed will have a flashing at the
roof wall joint.

thanks

Use aluminum ridge vent, take a brake and bend it at a 90 degrees, slide under siding and install over shingles. Have done it before, where that's how it was done before we did roof. Homeowner never had problems before us or after we did exactly how someone else did it.

Works as the flashing also. Make sure you cut the part the goes up the wall so it is a straight piece

Cut the the piece all the way across where I pointed.

Bend at 90, where i pointed.

I should have some smartvent in my hands today.

I am still confused about how to install it in a roof to
wall application. The DEI drawing is confusing to me.

Do I install a counterflashing on the wall and a flashing over the smartvent, then shingle?

Where does the waterproofing membrane fit in to the install>

Do I use a strip of waterproofing membrane to seal the
top side of the counterflashing?

My roofing project is progressing well thanks to the
great information posted on this site by you folks.
Thanks for your help.

Fred,
What area of the country are you in? Do you get a lot of ice? protecting against water leaks is one thing, but against ice is a whole different ball game.

The weather here in the winter can get really dreadful.
80mph winds, freezing rain, ice pellets and a lot of snow.

I am covering the entire roof deck with waterproofing membrane as insurance against ice dams but the roof/wall
flashing has always been a source of leaks.

I'm going to give the smartvent a try since I have a box of it in the kitchen. If it does not work out I will
simply rip it out and try again.
