Single female here, who had my house reroofed last Sat 10-3.
Sales person & Head foreman could never seem to get their stories straight all day, as to what they were doing, or not doing while reroofing my home.
(deck replacement, skylight replacement, etc..)

They left the jobsite uncompleted late Sat afternoon -- it continued to rain Sat,Sun & Mon. They left sections of my home roof & shed with no shingles, only covered with 15 felt.

-- and it has continually rained since Sat,Sun & Mon

On Mon afternoon, 2 of the 10 guy crew showed up & finished applying the shingles.

Well, due to many inconsistencies, I started to get very uneasy about my contractor and the entire installation of my new roof.

Going with my gut instinct, I went ahead & hired a ROOFING Inspector to come by and if nothing else, give me some sort of peace of mind. Needless to say, his report was not a very favorable one. He quickly advised how these guys did a really "shotty job,& scored them a 2 out of a possible 10 points.

Anybody have any recommendations who or where I should start directing my complaints to.

I definitely do not trust the Sales guy any longer. (I Still have the insurance check in my possession)

Should I start with owner of this reputable company, & give him an opportunity to fix this situation?

OR Haag Engineering?

BBB?
or who?

According to inspectors report, this new roof needs to be taken off,all the decking replaced, and re-roofed from the beginning.

Any advice or suggestions any of you have, would be greatly appreciated, & Thanks for all your help!

I am so sorry that, here in Texas, you received such poor service (I am located in the Austin area).

If you would like, please send me a private message & identify this company.

As to what can be done, the first thing I will say is that Haag Engineering cannot do a single thing for you. This is nothing they work with; their experience is in identifying defective products or damages to these products as a course of natural events (hail, hurricanes, tornadoes, straight line winds) or man made (vandalism, insurance fraud).

Haag also works to improve processes and the products themselves, so essentially they won't have any thing to tell you.

I would first try to reach the highest level person within this company.

You should let them know that unless your home is "made right" that you will use every legal form of "social networking" that is available to you:

-Craigslist Skilled Trades
-Craigslist Rants & Raves
-Yelp.com
-Angie's List
-BBB

Start slow & deliberate & do not immediately shoot for the moon (even if that is what you expect). The squeaky wheel gets the grease, however you should remember that flying off the handle & screaming may often shut down the other party's desire to work with & for your concerns.

...I'm not insinuating that you will start out screaming, but getting this out there up front.

Keep us in tune with your situation. I am sure that right now (12:43 am on Friday morning) you're getting hammered with that weather system that is coming through Texas & on it's way to me.

Hi,

First did your roof leak? Sounds like it did not. Then they had it water tight.

They sent you 2 guys who knew how to finish your roof. I see nothing wrong with that. The other guys have less skill.

A lot of inspectors were failures at installing roofing materials. If they ever installed any roofing materials at all. So take the inspectors opion with a grain of salt. He may have been playing off your anger.

Call the owner first.

I understand why you do not trust the salesman. They often promise things that are not possible.

Lefty hit the nail on the head and Ranch gave good advice. I had an inspector just recently tell a homeowner I flashed their chimney wrong and thats why it was leaking. I brought in different people to show them that it was the actual chimney itself letting rain in and nothing to do with the roofing. Anyways these people insisted their "independent" inspector knew more than all of us. I refused to fix it so they hired someone who tore it all off and re did it and tried stickign me with the bill for it. Luckily they took pictures that prove I flashed it correctly. Because of that situation, I would not recommend going off of what one inspector says. Call a roofer or two and pay their fee for them to inspect your roof.

Also, only two guys on your roof is not of concern. For awhile it used to be just me and one guy knocking out houses because everyone we tried to hire wasnt up to our standards.

I wish you luck in getting your problems resolved.

inspector said something about the decking. replacing the decking will be additional to your contract in many cases we are not able to see whats under the shingles till we remove them, our job is to report any extras. i take it this way it the damage if decking is less then $100 tell my guys to fix it will waste my time and yours...first get the owner of the company out ther show him the areas that you think are wrong give him about 3days afterwards to get a crew out ther and fix it and if they dont show up give them a call back. ofther this will be a good time to call BBB for a complain. GOOD luck

My inspector was not a Home Inspector. I was advsd to hire strictly a Roofing Inspector, and he claims he has been in business since 1984 in Michigan, RI, and Texas.

The Roofing Inspector is the only person out of all parties (ins adjuster/roofing contractor) involved that actually went into my attic to inspect things.

Sales guy advised, ------ That The same day his crew removed the old shingles, and rotten decking, he would be there to take pictures of any/all interior water damage to submit for more supplemental costs.

Well, my Sales Guy was 4 hours late the day they began the project.

So, unfortunately by the time he arrived, the roofers had already re-shingled over the entire area where my decking was supposed to be replaced. Nobody ever checked below the felt to see if any decking needed to be replaced. These guys just threw on a 2nd layer of felt over entire roof, & re-shingled right on top of any/all bad decking, before I realized what they had done.

When my Sales Guy finally arrived later that day, both He & the Roofing Foreman kept telling me different stories as to what "was or was not" being replaced/fixed on my home.

EX: 1) Foreman said: THEY DID REPLACE DECKING
Sales guy said: NO DECKING HAD BEEN REPLACED.

2) Foreman claimed his crew replaced ALL Flashing.
Sales guys said roofers replaced SOME Flashing, that they just Re-Used my old Chimney Flashing

>> Roofing Inspector said: NONE of my Flashing had been Replaced.

Sales guy advsd later the same day:
3) My decking was not rotten like he initially thought. (Even though he wasn’t there to view my decking when roof was removed)

Foreman tried to tell me, that the reason my decking was "giving way, and felt SOFT" underneath when walking across the roof, was all due to the 3/8in decking materials.

(Which makes absolutely no sense to me, bcz my roof is only OFT like that in certain areas. Not over entire roof area.)

>> Roofing Inspector said: my decking is badly cracked & split in many areas. My Interior & Exterior chimney area is rotten from water damage

>> Roofing Inspector advsd: They reversed my shingle installation on several of my valley areas. So, water is currently running up underneath my new roof shingles, and the flashing is old, off center & providing no water protection for my home.

The 1st day of the roofing project--- after I confronted the Sales Guy and Foremean in my living room., They said they were going to go confer at lunch and would be back later, and I ndidnt hear from them for 7 days, wanting their check.

OH, & Did I mention??? That it has been raining here everyday since they installed my new roof, including the day of installation.

So, I guess you could say,
I just replaced a bad roof, with an even worse roof!!

AND Isnt that just great???

Photos, please.

& The valley - I think what you're saying is that they ran the valley reversed (i.e. a higher & steeper slope will run water INTO the valley overlay vs. the other way around... hard to describe here, I guess).

I see SOME of what you're discussing, however the photos are a bit small for this format.

Is there a way to get them broken out & posted line by line (that might make a larger image) instead of side by side?

& The valley is as I thought; they had the high slope running water down INTO the meeting valley cut instead of the water running OVER the valley cut.

If it makes you feel better, thats how majority of roofs are installed.

I just want to say that I always love Lefty's opinion because he sees both sides of every coin. You are Henry Fonda in 12 angry men.
