Any suggestions on vented drip edge. Hicks v/s Lamb Ritchie. Hicks does not have the baffle to prevent water backing up. Lamb and Richie has the baffle.
Any suggestions idea would be greatly appreciated.

ya ed, we use alot of both out here in new england. the other question, isnt L&R cheaper? hicks is nice but spendy. you shouldnt have a problem w/either. i have only seen ice climb into hicks when theres a guttered edge or incorrect venting. with hicks you dont need soffet vents, but you do need to cut down the plywd. on the bottom edge before install, have proper vent in bays between rafters, & have the ridge vented.

What do you mean by guttered edge. Also would you put the hicks on the garage too as I live in CT.

mp in ct. i meant some eavelines without gutters. i agree ice will climb in if not vented right.

Would you you recomend vented drip edge on the garage. Also does it get mounted behind the gutter?

yes, it does. in the old days, im saying 20-25 yrs. ago we installed the hicks & then the 1x3 or 1x4 shadow board over the face of the hicks. i still see it alot today.

I can only find link for L&R. No links for Hicks.

no, it is not common practice to vent a garage. however its a good idea incase in the future you want to make the garage or living space or office space. ed, im not sure who makes hicks vent (louvered dripedge)?

vented drip edge is really only intended for when there is no gutter. A soffitt vent is better and safer when there is a gutter.

My roofer installed the Hicks vented drip edge. The botton half of the drip edge is sitting in the gutters. Would there be any problem with that in winter w/ ice? I do not have any soffit vents.

i would be concerned w/ vented drip on a guttered edge. if on the garage & its not heated its no big deal. but, if on the main house which is heated could cause problems.

Why would it be a problem on the main house? Also along the vented drip edge on the whole house and garage, there is also ridge venting on house and garage. Would ice & water still back up through the vented drip edge?
