I am building a 12' x 12' greenhouse. Its all framed and now I have a roofing question. I am going to do a gable roof with a 1/4 pitch. If I use the Pythagorean theorem, my rafter length should be 6.71 feet. My questions are, how to convert that .71 to fractions so I can measure it with a tape measure and how do I figure out what angles I will need to make the correct cuts for the rafters? Thanks in advance for your help.

Is it 12' X 12' outside dimension? How long do you want the rafter tails to extend?

To convert 6.71' to inches, multiply .71 X 12(inches), which equals 6' 8.52" inches or approx 8 1/2"

To find the fractional equivalent you'll have to determine the increments. Example .1875" = 3/16" (.1875 X 16 = 3)

The best way to do angles is to learn to use a framing square or a speed square, but if this is a one shot deal then I can give the roofers way of doing them.

Will you be using a miter saw?

Usually your complete outside framing measurements are the same as your slab measurement.
But your framer didnt do that.

Measure your outside framing measurements, go to a lumber yard who makes trusses. bring your picture.
bring a trailor.

It might be easier and not as expensive as you might be thinking.

OR Go to a subdivision where houses are being built. Go directly to one of the resonsible looking workers framing the house. Bam. done.

Or Go buy a new framing square(the large one) and a small booklet should be included which should give you the info your requesting.

Or go to contractortalk.com , go to carpentry, ask your question, you'll probably get the exact response you're looking for after answering some more questions.
