|
|
It rained again today...take the pots out.
For the past year or 2 my roof has been leaking. I don't know much about roofing but have tried to fix it with my dad.
Basically my roof is (don't know the proper term) Gravel and Tar. The roof is shaped like this :
/\__ but with a much shallower angle. The flat section is where a porch (now a room) was added.
We tore up some paper and gravel and all that stuff and replaced some of the rotted plywood at the valley and then rebuilt it up. The leak over the valley stopped but now there are leaks all over inside the room with the flat roof and some more leaks at the valley.
The thing is we have spread hundreds of Gallons of Sealer all over the roof. How can water get through what is essentially a membrane and wear does it get through?? We don't know what to do. Its make it extremely hard to sell the house and we already got ****cked trying to fix it by some stupid company who messed up the standing seam order and then FORCED us to purchase it still but because of the mess up we then could not affford shipping. So we were forced to waste 10 grand on a roof that we never got.
What can I do to track down where the roof leaks and how to fix it. |

I can't call a professional roofer. I don't have the money. I just said nearly 10 grand was thrown away because I was already worked over by a roofing company.
The point in my admitting I do not know much about roofing was to let everyone know how to address me or give me information. Assume that I know nothing about what you are saying and explain it to me that way. or ask question that way.
It wasn't meant to say, I am an idiot and can't do anything. Plus I also stated we did tear part of it and down and patch it perfectly. I just don't know where or how the roof could be leaking with that huge patch and sealer all over the flat roof.
I came onto this forum to ask questions. "go call a roofer" seems like a smartass, non-helpful answer and something I could easily do without asking someone elses advice to do so.
Not to sound unappreciative or a smartass but you just aren't being very helpful and its a kind of irritating comment. |

Yeah I will see what I can do, I know that doesn't take the place of a picture, it wasn't meant to. I was just pretty sure someone would say "well you didn't even tell us the shape of the roof" So I was trying to give a quick example before it was asked. |

That symbol kinda looks like gravel stop.
I am not a flat roofer, but there are
some here who are, and are more than
willing to give you some GOOD advise.
Be patient. |

You mean like on the edges of the roof? I guess it kinda does..but yeah my roof is shaped like that with a shallower angle. I will see about some picks later. Its very wet outside, I don't know where the ladder is and the tower/antenna thing on our house was put on backwards...with the ladder facing in, so it very difficult to climb. |

First I would contact a lawyer and try to get my 10 grand back. Whats the deal with that? You pay 10 grand and get nothing?
As far as your roof, I'm picturing a steep slope with a low slope attached. Where the two slopes meet are you calling this the valley? Thats the most likely area for a leak. Addressing this with 100 gallons of roofing goop is not the answer. (As you've found out)
How big is the roof that leaks. Would you be able to replace this area? Sound like the best bet _________________ Visit our site |

how much have you spent on the "hundreds" of gallons of driveway sealer you installed on your roof? |

Without seeing the roof, and with the little you've given me to go on, my guess is that when you tried to replace the old low-sloped roof you did NOT extend the roof membrane up and BENEATH the roofing felt on the sloped roof. Therefore, any leaks on the sloped roof will likely show up along the transition, which is probably at a wall inside your house. That's just my guess!
Now, do you have some photos? _________________ Professional Roofing & Waterproofing Consultant |

Basically its like this.
My dad was going to put a standing seam roof on the house. He spent a while looking at different companies for quotes on the costs.
We finally ended up at this company. we ordered the roof and everything needed to install it and about a week later they contacted us saying there was a mistake made with the quote and the price is nearl 1/3 more.
Everything was already cut and ordered. My dad say hell no, You gave me this price, cut all the material, and then said oh by the way its 4 grand extra. After it being totally fine with the Credit card company 2 months later they went back and lied, saying that they never made the mistake and the truck came to deliver it and gave it to us (it isn't YOURS unless you accept the delivery). So finally my dad said Fine I will pay for it. Now all of the sudden the Shipping price more than doubled. But because of what they did the payment was forced to be made but my dad could not afford the shipping costs. So its just pissed away money. |

its actually really easy to tear up because its wet and soft from the Florida sun. Its a pain in the ass, but not that hard. The old stuff is actually harder to get off. |

Here are a few pics, probably one of the ugliest ones you have seen Lol!
This is where it leaked very badly before. We cut everything down. Replaced the Wood and put in proper supported (the beams of the two roofs Don't even match up..) and now there isn't a leak there anymore
My dad got kinda lazy last time he put some up..
Another problem is it has rained alot. 16 days of the 24 this month and like that every month just about. Its difficult to do anything.
A deer for kicks, had the camera in my hands..
