You could be right about the contractor.

Give him the benefit of the doubt about the non-level eave edge though. When someone looks at the roof plane, the rood shingles would obviously distort the visual perception.

It would be unrealistic to use a transit or string a masonry line at the time of doing a measuring estimate.

An alternative regular seamless gutter system would probably have made more sense and may function better, regarding pitching the trough for drainage, but that barn door has closed down now.

I am starting to think that what happened is I got a contractor who has done nice work but is too cock-sure of himself and is in love with a particular way of doing this....and doesnt want to entertain alternate systems for whatever reason.

I agree, sounds like a young man's mistake. Experience would teach you not to install that system on a whole house without investigating.

Ed is right. Unfortunately there are just way too many people cutting throats in our business. Only way I could see to stop it is for all municipalitys to institute the need for permits and inspections on every single roof job. At this time there is nothing to seperate the legit from the fly-by-night except price. You usually get what you pay for but by the time they find out we miss out on the big money and end up tarring their leaks for the next ten years.

We got them to quit the permit and inspections here. WHY???? They almost NEVER inspected a roof. When they did, some idiot or another inspector would come up with the most assinine crap, like insisting on felt under a tin roof! Then pass a 3 nailed, winged, too high nailed 3-tab.

Won't even go into the hurrah I had with one in Chesterfield about skylite flashing kits on a copper roof.

AAARRRRRGGGGGHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me, I charge for estimates. Most have a check in hand when I arrive. Some wait until I'm ready to leave, but I always collect a redeemable trip fee.
